FAQ about stock footage


  •  WHAT ARE YOUR RESEARCH FEES?

     Actually, The Source does not charge research fees. You incur no costs as we assemble and post online your custom search results that match your stock footage request.

  •  CAN I PREVIEW SHOTS ONLINE?

     Yes, indeed!  

     We already have most clips from our library in our  Online Clip Database, .   The images we do have posted may also be accessed by clicking on the "Clip Search" button. Almost all of our library is also described shot by shot in our  Online Text Database, . It can be accessed by clicking on the "Text Search" button. Many producers search there, see by a written shot description that we have what they are looking for and then give us a call at (520) 298-4810 to discuss the project or e-mail us.  We have some ability to post clips or stills to the Web now; please call us to discuss details. 

  •  THEN HOW DO I PREVIEW THE SHOTS?

     First, call The Source at (520)298-4810 or (212) 925-2547 and discuss your concept with an experienced stock footage researcher.  

     A selection of scenes that matches your needs is then assembled and posted online and your custom search results in footage previews that match your stock footage request.  

  • WHAT ARE LICENSE AND DUB OR LAB FEES?

     A "License Fee" is a release fee granting a limited usage license of the scene(s) you order to be used in a specified production for a specific market during the stated license period.  Custom quotes are available if you desire to use the same footage in more than one production, or more than once in the same production, use the production containing our footage in more than one market, or if you would like to license scene(s) in perpetuity.  For a sample range of our license fees go to Rates and Services.  To receive validation of your stock footage license simply. . .

    • Pay license, dub and shipping fees
    • Sign the license agreement provided by The Source and return it with the screening and master tapes.

     A "Dub or Lab Fee" covers the cost of transferring the shots you order from the master to the tape format of your choice. An alternative option is that we can upload clips for you in uncompressed files to an FTP site. The Source can provide film negative elements on some, but not all, of our footage.  For dub fee rates,  go to Rates and Services.

  • HOW DO I ORDER SHOTS
     FROM AN ONLINE PREVIEW  FILE?

     Call us at (212) 925-2547 or (520) 298-4810, give us the time codes (in and out) of the scenes you would like to order and shot descriptions.  Also specify the desired format for your master (Apple ProRes 422 QuickTime files, for example). Upon receipt of payment or faxed verification of payment, we upload the files and send you the link. Please keep in mind that mastered stock footage scenes not used are subject to a 50% kill fee, unless olther arrangements are made.   Delivery time for most masters is 24 hours or less.

  • HOW DOES PAYMENT WORK?

     The Source requires full payment before master elements are posted.  A legal license agreement is not be issued until such payment is received.

     The Source accepts American Express, MasterCard, Visa and Discover Card.
